Evangelist Franklin Graham is calling on Americans to join him in a “time of prayer and repentance” this month, warning that “our nation is in trouble” amid a volatile political climate.
He called “a time of prayer and repentance” last week and urged that it continues during other prayer programs scheduled for the start of the year.
“If you think our nation is in trouble now, just wait.”
“As our streets boil over with hate, anger, crime, drugs, and just sheer hopelessness, is there something we can do?”
“You bet there is,” he responded.
“WE HAVE TURNED OUT BACKS ON GOD. WE NEED TO ASK HIS FORGIVENESS”
“As a nation, our sins are so great.”
“We have increasingly turned our backs on God and His commands, embracing godless secularism.”
“We need to ask His forgiveness and seek His face.”
Amid protests in the aftermath of the shooting of Renee Good by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Reverend Graham urged Americans to “pray for our leaders, and pray that God would bring calm to our streets.”
“ASK GOD TO USE HIS CHURCH AS AN INSTRUMENT OF PEACE DURING THIS GREAT UNCERTAINTY”
“There are many who would like to stir things up.”
“There are even those who would like to destroy this great country,” Franklin Graham added.
“Pray that these efforts would be thwarted and their plans would be brought into confusion.”
“Ask God to use His church to be instruments of peace in this time of great uncertainty.”
“MILLIONS ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS AND REPENTING WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE”
“Let’s humble ourselves. Let’s give God the glory for this great nation and thank Him for His hand of blessing, protection, and mercy.”
“Millions of people remembering our sins and asking for forgiveness, repenting and seeking His face will make a difference,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Pastor Greg Laurie, the founder of southern California’s Harvest Crusade, called on his followers to also participate in the time set aside for “prayer and repentance.”
“Franklin Graham called me a couple of days ago and said that with everything happening in our nation and around the world right now, we urgently need to pray.”
“I couldn’t agree more,” he shared online, adding, “Will you join us?”
“ONLY HOPE FOR AMERICA IS GOD”
While appearing on Washington Watch with US Christian leader and president of the Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, Reverend Graham shared that the only hope for America is God.
“In our country, there is a moral issue here and a spiritual issue,” he explained.
“Only God can solve these issues.”
“DON’T JUST PRAY FOR AMERICANS”
He told America’s faithful, they don’t have to stop at praying for America.
“Let’s pray for people like in Iran,” he encouraged.
“The Iranian people are suffering so much right now. We need to pray for them.”He added that people in Venezuela also need prayer.
“The people of Venezuela have suffered for so many years under [Presidents] Maduro and Chavez, before him,” he explained.
“They have been beaten down and have been in poverty.”
“GOD HEARS PRAYER. GOD ANSWERS PRAYER”
The evangelist concluded his message, by pointing out that prayer is powerful.
“God hears prayer. I believe in prayer. God answers prayer.
“This is a time for people who believe in prayer to stand together and call upon the name of the Lord and ask for help.”
