New Zealand born and raised, Los Angeles-based worship leader Brooke Ligertwood who is also known under her maiden name as Brooke Fraser, has revealed an incredible encounter she had on campus at a Houston theological library.
By chance she met a student called Ksusha who was visiting the campus while studying for a theology doctorate online from her homeland of war-torn Ukraine.
Ksusha explained that two years earlier she had seen a video of Brooke expressing her desire to one day study theology.
That prompted Ksusha to pray regularly and earnestly that Brooke’s wish would come true.
“i AM POORLY EDUCATED WITH NO FORMAL THEOLOGY STUDY”
The singer/songwriter bluntly confessed that she was “poorly educated.”
“I just like reading. I’ve loved Scripture since the moment I was saved within its pages.”
“I was mentored by the copious amounts of mostly lay theology (C.S. Lewis, Bonhoeffer, Tozer, St. Augustine, etc.) I gorged on as a young studio/touring musician on the road.”
“But formal study has not yet been part of my path.”
BROOKE’S INVITED TO AN ESTEEMED THEOLOGICAL LIBRARY
Brooke was recently invited to attend the Lanier Theological Library and Learning Center, thanks to a few favours from friends, to informally attend a doctoral intensive taught by Dr. Lynn Cohick, a New Testament scholar.
The Library displays Christian artifacts such as handwritten letters by C. S. Lewis, artwork from his Chronicles of Narnia book series, two copies of the original 1611 King James Version Bible and a fragment of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The singer was excited to be on such an esteemed campus:
“My feet clip-clopped on the stone and my heart giddy upped – one of those moments where one becomes hyper-aware of experiencing said moment by sheer grace,” is how she described the experience.
GOD ORCHESTRATES AN AMAZING ENCOUNTER
“Just then, I noticed two women walking towards the same entrance, whom I surmised were (unlike me) legitimate students.”
The women introduced themselves to one another and it turned out one of them was Ksusha who was shocked to come face-to-face with Brooke.
The singer explained why: “Ksusha lives in the Ukraine, where she has been studying for her PhD in theology remotely, traveling periodically to the US for the in-person weeks.”
“She told me that a couple of years ago, she came across a clip of me being asked if there was something in my life I hadn’t had the opportunity to do yet that I would like to. I answered that one day I hoped to study theology.”

Ksusha told her about her fervent prayers for the recording artist from a war zone.
Brooke reflected that not only did God answer Ksusha’s prayers, but He orchestrated her walking into the exact same class Ksusha was attending.
“God saw fit not only to give me a sublime taste of an answer to a prayer I hadn’t dared pray myself, but made sure that she who had faith to pray it for me saw with her own eyes a beginning come to pass,” Brooke wrote.
“So, when you pray, know this: God is a loving Father with a glint in His eye.”
