And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:8-11 NIV
We all agree with this Scripture and it says God is able to supply all our needs, so how does that work for the day to day.
First and foremost, it is not an invitation to do nothing. In fact I believe it is important that as leaders we financially support the ministry ourselves. And ‘yes’ I do. My wife and I still support Rhema Media in New Zealand (where I worked for 16 years) and we are monthly supporters of UCB Australia/Vision.
Why do I think this is so important? Because it means I am not asking anyone to do something I’m not prepared to do myself.
Imagine someone asking you to give to a cause, and then you find out they don’t support it themselves. Their words are just words. In New Zealand (and Australia) there is a common saying “Put your money where your mouth is” – it has a lot of truth.
When we donate ourselves then we have the most powerful “ask” we can present, it means I can say “I support UCB because….” No one can argue with that, or say that’s not a valid reason, because it is your reason – it is your testimony.
So today’s 1, 2, 3 of successfully asking is…
- Be a donor yourself.
- Practice finishing this statement “I support UCB because…”
- Ask! At the end of your answer above say “…will you join me in prayerfully and financially supporting UCB today?” and you have a great fundraising message.
Just tell people why you give, then ask them if they will give too.
