Monthly Support

Nov 25, 2024

You’ll be successful if you faithfully do the best you can with what you have

I was excited to see that Tomu has begun building Fiji’s Monthly Support strategy. Because building a robust monthly support program is crucial for any charity aiming to achieve long-term sustainability and impact.

Here are 7 reasons why you should invest your time and effort into a regular giving program:

  1. Financial Sustainability

A monthly support program provides your ministry with a steady and predictable stream of income. Unlike one-time donations, which can fluctuate significantly, monthly contributions give your ministry a reliable financial base. This stability allows for better planning and allocation of resources, ensuring your ministry can maintain its operations and continue its programs without the constant worry of funding shortages.

  1. Stronger Donor Relationships

Monthly donors tend to develop a deeper connection with your ministry. Regular contributions mean your donors are consistently engaged with your ministry, which can lead to a stronger sense of loyalty and commitment. This ongoing relationship is enhanced when you communicate regularly to share updates and talk about the impact of their gifts. An added benefit we have seen is that monthly donors still give one-time gifts to your appeals.

  1. Cost-Effective Fundraising

Acquiring new donors is expensive and time-consuming, so turning your existing one-time donors into monthly givers makes a lot of sense.

  1. Enhanced Program Planning

With a reliable income stream, your ministry can plan more effectively. Knowing that there is a consistent flow of funds allows for better, and more confident, budgeting and long-term planning.

  1. Increased Donor Engagement

It is important that you provide regular touchpoints with your donors to keep them informed and engaged. These newsletters should include updates, and stories that highlight the impact of the donations.

12 -13 newsletters a year is a good target to build a community of supporters who feel personally invested in your mission. Engaged donors are more likely to advocate for your ministry, participate in events, and encourage others to support. Over time, this can lead to increased donor retention and potentially larger donations as trust and commitment grow.

  1. Simplified Giving Process

For donors, monthly giving is often more convenient than making one-time donations. It allows them to spread their contributions over time, which can be easier on their budget. Eg many donors can afford to give a dollar a day ($31 per month) but far less could afford to give $360 in one gift. Many donors appreciate the simplicity of setting up an automatic monthly donation, knowing that they are making a continuous impact without having to remember to donate each time. This convenience and simplicity can attract more donors to commit to regular giving.

  1. Building a Sustainable Future

There are a lot of long-term benefits to having a monthly giving program, but it takes time. Having a strong monthly support program provides a financial foundation from which you can grow and expand your impact. This sustainability ensures that the charity can continue to fulfill its mission and make a difference in the lives of those it serves.

Would you like to have a strong monthly giving program?

The first step is to start.

Then, having a continual emphasis on growing your monthly support program is strategic. By putting time and effort into building and nurturing a monthly support program, you will ensure your ministry has the resources and support needed to achieve the ministry goals and create lasting impact.
