At times we can all be guilty of not doing something because we ‘think‘ it is going to be too difficult.
But often times we just need to give it our best shot. Or, to quote sports apparel giant Nike, …
We need to overcome the Paralysis of Analysis
When I travel I often have people say to me, “We need to have some [insert local language] spots on the station.” To which I reply “Yes we do! Make some!”
A good example from my recent trip to Vanuatu was when I was with a local Pastor and we were waiting for someone. So I pulled out my phone and recorded him reading 5 of his favourite Bible passages in Bislama. If I had analysed things, there were lots of valid reasons that it would have been better to wait. I didn’t have any recording gear (I only had my phone), we were outside (no studio), there was background noise (a generator was running in the background) we hadn’t prepared anything etc etc. But instead of analysing things, we just did it. Now, back home in Brisbane, we’ve used Audacity to clean up the audio and add in a some background music to cover the bit of noise we couldn’t remove, and guess what… We have 5 Bislama Bible reading spots on our station.
So today, that thing you want, just give it your best shot.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,
Success is doing the best we can with what we have.
