Cheerful Giving

cheerful giving

A mother wanted to teach her daughter a moral lesson.  She gave the little girl $0.50 and a $5.00 note for church. “Put whichever one you want in the collection plate and keep the other for yourself,” she told the girl. When they were leaving church, the mother asked her daughter which amount she had given.

“Well,” said the little girl, “I was going to give the $5.00, but just before the collection the man in the pulpit said that we should all be cheerful givers. I knew I’d be a lot more cheerful if I gave the $0.50… so I did.”

The mother may not have agreed with her daughter’s reasoning, but at the heart of the matter is this fact – the daughter gave in the way she believed.

2 Corinthians 9:7 [MSG]

I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over and make up your own mind what you will give.  That will protect you against sob stories and arm twisting.  God loves it when the giver delights in the giving.

Giving is about being honourable, being purposeful and being cheerful. It’s never about how much you give, if you do or don’t, if your mate gives next to you or not.

It’s always about you and the state of your heart – a cheerful heart!
