Love one Another

It is 4:30pm Saturday afternoon

You are just ready to go out and enjoy a movie and dinner with a friend.  It has been a while since you have enjoyed a day off properly.  Today is that day where nothing is needed to be done, but relax, chat and catch up.  You grab the house keys and head out the door.  Suddenly your phone rings, “Hello.”  On the end of the line is a work colleague who has a problem and needs to chat, in fact they can’t tell you over the phone.  They desperately need you NOW…

What do you do?

Do you drop everything and see them?

Do you try and see them later that night?

Do you say that you don’t have the time now but you could tomorrow at work?

This conversation is not about what disciplines you have in place regarding times of rest and relaxation, that’s up to you – rather it’s about our hearts and how we respond to someone’s need.  Love is experienced in what we say…. But love becomes extravagant in “what we DO”.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails.

The extra mile, the other cheek, the helping hand, the many forgiving’s, the last of your chocolate cake – whatever it might be – when love grows legs, it goes a long way.
