With the 2025 Edition of The Word for Today on its way to you right now, we wanted to check in and encourage you to start thinking about, what you are going to say when you distribute the 2025 devotions. As this is a very important moment of the distribution of The Word for Today, you want to make sure that you have a prepared genuine, impactful, and natural script to present to the people that you meet, as you may never get another chance to speak to them again, so having thought through it clearly will help you to clearly communicate what you want.
Below Grant gives us some words of wisdom to help us craft these scripts better.
First off saying Thank you is important. We need to make sure the person feels welcome and encouraged to take a copy.
Secondly, we need to mention the donation bit. But it doesn’t need to be a hard ask. Sometimes that’s good but I find it’s better to make it sound like you’re inviting them to a partnership.
When asking for a donation your first thought probably goes to something like: “Your donation will help us to print and ship next year’s edition”.
But that’s a very nuts and bolts comment and we need to add more emotion. In fact, what you are aiming for is a head nod. Yep, literally you want them to nod their head to what you are saying. You’ll get a head nod if you can connect the donor to the changed life.
This would mean the wording is more like:
Your donation will mean another person or family, who can’t afford it will also be blessed with their own copy. When we help others we are fulfilling the Great Commission.
Do you see the different focus? It’s not about us printing books it’s about them having impact for the Gospel.
It’s a subtle but important key difference.
Don’t worry if it doesn’t come naturally. My first inclination is always to state Our need – but if I ask So what? That gets me back on focus. And that’s why you need to write it down and practice – so you get it right 😊
I hope this helps
Grant
