凡事我都可以做,但……(哥林多前书6:12)

让你的肉体知道是谁掌权。每天都要用不同的方式对自己说“不”。如果你这么做,在关键时刻,就能够做到。我们不只是在谈论原罪,而是针对生活中那些我们为之辩解、使之合理或拖延处理的无序领域而言。保罗写道:“凡事我都可以做,但并非事事都有益处;凡事我都可以行,但并非事事都造就人。”保罗以这一准绳来衡量自己的行为:“这有益处吗?它有辖制我的可能吗?”你跟自己这么说:“我知道我需要改变,我会的,就明天。”这话你还要继续说多久?你有权利在每晚临睡前吃巧克力蛋糕和冰淇淋。这是你“可以做”的,但并没有“益处”,尤其是你若希望血管通畅、血糖正常、腰身苗条,以及有长跑的能力,或者只是为了跟上孙子的步伐。你可以随心所欲地花费时间和金钱,但当收益递减规律开始运作时,你最终陷入贫困,就无权抱怨了。你有权让纷杂垃圾充斥大脑,但要明白:不断陷入恶人恶事中会削弱你的品格,剥夺你的自尊,最终辖制你。论及习惯,弃恶从善,只有一人能做到,那就是你自己。日常选择造就你的品格。你每日所思所想、所做所为,造就了你这个人。
