SALT OF THE EARTH

Matthew 5:13
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

We can confidently clarify that God doesn’t want us to become salt shakers. Rather Jesus speaks into a truth that salt has characteristics and those characteristics should be evident in our lives.

WHAT SALT DOES
1. Preserves or keeps and helps fight off bacteria – it’s a natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Keeps moisture out. TRUTH: We are called to stand against what is harmful and help preserve what is good.

2. Was once worth more in weight than gold. In Roman times it was referred to as “white gold”. Soldiers were sometimes paid in salt. TRUTH: You are far more precious then you could ever imagine.

3. Plays a vital role in water retention, muscle contraction, and digestion – assists the “electrolyte balance” in the body. TRUTH: We help keep the balance between what is right and what is wrong.

4. Lifts up and brings out the best flavour. TRUTH: We help lift up God’s kingdom purposes. We bring flavor to the world we live in.

We may not see salt in the way Jesus did – but our lives should be a reflection of what salt is all about.
