Setaita’s daily journey with The Word for Today
Here is a powerful testimony from Tomu our Station Manager in Fiji, when he visited his village just before the New Year. He shared about his Aunty Setaita and how she has been diligently using The Word for Today for the past 2 years.
I met an Aunty of mine on Dec 31, 2023. Her name is Setaita and she has been using the devotionals for the last 2 years. We met again at a local combine church service in my village after a long time. This service was also meant to be the farewell service for the year 2023. She couldn’t wait to meet me and share her story about how the book has been her company for the whole year as she mostly stays home with minimal movement due to her knee problem.
She reads her devotional every morning and marks out writings with red pen that speaks to her and signs off on each page to indicate that she’s read the devotion of that day. She pulled out the book from her bag and showed me all this to prove. She was filled with excitement when sharing about the lessons learned and how the devotional had really impacted and helped her growth and faith journey. She spends time after reading to share the lessons of each day to her children and grandchildren. The challenges of each day becomes more meaningful to her as she feels that God is speaking to her and building her faith in each of the circumstances she faces each day.
She had been praying to meet me as she wanted to get her hands on a copy of 2024 edition. And it so happens that I attended the service on Dec 31 bringing along some copies with me. I was able to gift her a copy of The Word for Today 2024 edition, to her excitement and she’s looking forward to following through the devotion with each day.

Testimonies of the Impact of The Word for Today
We received the following beautiful testimony from Coxwain about how God is continuing to work through the lives of a local church that he was visiting…
Good afternoon Ian and Grant.
Trust you had a great and enjoyable Christmas celebration with your family members.
I happened to attend one of the local Churches in town last Sunday.
The preacher gave an opportunity for the Church members and attendees who wanted to share their life journey experiences and testimonies in 2023.
A number of Church members testified about their spiritual life and journey with Christ.
I did not expect but I heard a few of them talking about The Word for Today and how much it really helped and empowered them in their daily devotions and spiritual journey in 2022 & 2023 while sharing their testimonies.
They were asking when the 2024 edition would arrive. Fortunately, I was there and had to stand up and explained the situation.
Two of the elderly and senior women by the name of Nancy & Rose approached me and spoke to me about how much The Word for Today really means to them after the service.
Marama Nancy Riti, the wife of a former Moderator of the United Church In SI, late Philmon Riti was in tears when she testified, she expressed her joy and appreciation how The Word for Today really helped her spiritual life and journey.
She did not hesitate to declare to the congregation that she has been reading The Word for Today each day, following the allocated dates.
Unfortunately, I could get a better picture of her and Rose.
Marama Nancy Riti is in the far left standing, Rose Tora is sitting in front with her grandchild.
They insisted that as soon as the 2024 edition arrives, I would let them know so they can get their copies asap.
Kind regards,
Coxwain

Servants for life
‘Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle.’ Romans 1:1 NASB
In the Bible the word minister isn’t just a noun (which denotes a person, place, or thing); it’s also a verb (an action word). It’s what you do, not what you claim to be. In Scripture, the word servant sometimes referred to a 3rd-level galley slave chained to the oar of a Roman ship. Day and night, they rowed to the beat of another, and whether in battle or in merchant service, they expected to die chained to that oar. What a picture!
Paul says, ‘Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind he will find acceptable’ (Romans 12:1 NLT). Paul had no doubt about what God had called him to be. When he referred to himself as a bond-servant, he was describing a slave who served his master faithfully for six years. In the 7th year, the law of Moses required that the slave be set free. But if, when he was released, he came back and said, ‘Master, I’m not serving you because I have to; I’m serving you because I want to,’ his master would take him before a magistrate and pierce his ear, signifying that he belonged to him forever (see Exodus 21:6). Sometimes you need to look up and say: ‘Lord, I’m not serving you because I have to; I’m serving you because I love you. Pierce my ear. Mark me as yours. Bond me with you so I can never belong to another.’
When you think of everything Jesus has done for you, is that really too much to ask?
