Ok, that’s out in the open. 😊
If you want to get donations for your ministry, you have to ask.
I’ll come back to this in just a mo, but first it is important to remember that the Ask is only Step 1 in a 3-step process.
Step 1 – Ask
Step 2 – Thank
Step 3 – Report
You have to say ‘thank you’ and then tell them what happened as a result of their gift. This can simply be a testimony from a listener or reader.
Ok, but what about the ask itself.
Does the thought of having to ask make you feel uncomfortable? It shouldn’t.
- You are only inviting people to do something you already do yourself. (I’m assuming here you give to your ministry)
- It’s not about money – it is about ministry – God’s ministry.
- You’re not begging or asking for a favour. You’re inviting them to be part of something exciting.
At Christmas – a time we all give and receive. Answer me this. What gave you more joy, the presents you received – or the presents you gave.
I’m sure that like me it was the giving. Seeing the look on your child’s face when he opened his parcel. It may surprise you, but in the same vein people want to give to your ministry! they really do!
So, don’t sweat it. Just practice saying something you are comfortable with. Any heavy work is God’s problem, our job is to be faithful and do the basics well.
Remember: Plan the Work… Work the Plan.
